I am on a mission to improve my wiki-fu. Can you point me in a few directions to get info on DPL? I'm going to try my hand at another wiki, and want to try to be the best I can be - i.e. like you! Thanks in advance -- [[User:Kalon|Kalon]] 21:59, 15 August 2007 (EDT)

: Oh how I ''wish'' there were a "DPL for Dummies", hehe. Check out their website: [http://semeb.com/dpldemo/index.php?title=Dynamic_Page_List] That's where I go whenever I want to figure out what does what. It took me a while to pick up the basic concepts from it, but the information is there if you work at it. It's more of a reference than a tutorial though. However, it's pretty much the only resource that I know of. My advice would be to make yourself a Sandbox ([[User:Kalon/Sandbox]], or possibly even hop over to the test wiki) and play around with it a lot, that's pretty much what I did -- played around and kept looking through their manual until I got it. Also take a look at some of the DPL in use here on the wiki. Some stuff is pretty straightforward with it, but advanced stuff can really make your head spin. If you run into any specific questions or problems let me know and I'll try to give you a hand. Or if you find some DPL code that you don't understand, I can try to explain what it's doing for you. Hope that helps! :) -- [[User:Sekoia|Sekoia]] 02:13, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

:: Thanks, Sekoia! I will look in to the site - seems to be pretty comprehensive! Out of interest, i presume that there is a server-side installation? The Downloads section implies that, and as I am not an administrator of the site I am looking to DPL'ise, I may have to hold someones hand through the installation... -- [[User:Kalon|Kalon]] 18:55, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

::: Yep, DPL is an extension to Mediawiki that has to be installed server-side. It is not installed by default. You can see if it's installed on a server by visiting the page [[Special:Version]]. You'll notice on Paragon Wiki, there's an entry under "Parser hooks" for DynamicPageList2. If they have an old release, it's important to know that it may not function the same as what you read in their manual -- they often add (or change) features from version to version. So if something doesn't work right, that could likely well be why. (I ran into that a few times in the past, before Tony upgraded.) -- [[User:Sekoia|Sekoia]] 20:54, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

: That is very slick! I wonder if it's a feature, or a beneficial bug. Either way, it opens up a lot of possibilities. I noticed that you opened an HTML comment tag before each section, even when there were several in a row, and then closed all adjacent sections with a single HTML comment closing tag. How come the extra open tags? -- [[User:Sekoia|Sekoia]] 21:34, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
+
::There was a --> being tacked onto whatever printed out with the last section in the list, so the additional <!-- makes sure that doesn't happen. Check out <nowiki>[[Template:PowerProp]]</nowiki> for some info on what I've done. --[[User:GuyPerfect|GuyPerfect]] 21:52, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
+
::Ah, yes. I see what you were asking. I put the <-- after the partial image tags because it makes the interperater terminate the image tag in the appropriate place. So my template is basically using two exploits in one. If either of them gets fixed, it will fail to work properly. --[[User:GuyPerfect|GuyPerfect]] 21:58, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

== "Slow" Set Bonuses ==

Per a quick discussion [[Template talk:Set Bonus|at the talk page]], can you sic your bot on pages that use {{tl|Set Bonus}} to refer to type=Slow as class=Mez, changing them to class=All Powers?
+
+
Also, I attempted to find a bot program that works with our wiki and apparently there are none (the biggie is AutoWikiBrowser, which I'm moderately familiar with from some Wikipedia edits.) As I know absolutely nothing about programming a bot myself, I was wondering if there's something that could enable one of the ready-made bots here? (Preferably AWB. >.> ) Cos then I wouldn't have to bug you every time I found something to bot! :D ~ {{:User:Aggelakis/Sig1}} 03:28, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

: Changes made, including the relevant category renaming. I've never used AWB but I took a quick look at it, try doing this:

:* Go to Options -> Preferences
+
:* Select the "Site" tab
+
:* For "Project:" select "custom"
+
:* Next to "http://" put "paragonwiki.com/w/"
+
:* Click OK and see if it works!

: I was going to test it out, but I don't know how to use AWB and it wasn't immediately obvious to me, so I gave up, lol. Good luck! -- [[User:Sekoia|Sekoia]] 19:28, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

== AdminBanner ==

I made up a template a while ago, based on a divbox Agge had in use on her userpage... {{tl|AdminBanner}} any reason why I couldn't (or shouldn't) add it to the various Admins' user pages? I am asking you, sorta randomly, based on the fact that I happened to notice you weren't using it already. :P —[[User:Thirty7|Thirty7]] [[File:Talk-Icon.jpg|link=User talk:Thirty7]] 06:07, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
+
+
: I personally try to avoid touching anyone else's user page. Inconsequential changes aren't too big a deal, but I really don't like making visible changes. Each user should be able to decide how they want their user page laid out. So that's a general reason for why not to do it.
+
: I also don't see the need for it. I'm listed as an administrator at [[Project:Administrators]] (with redirects from [[Admin]], [[Admins]], [[Administrator]], and [[Administrators]]), not to mention that you can also query it [http://paragonwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Special%3AListUsers&group=sysop via Special:ListUsers]. Plus more experienced editors catch on when they see an admin doing something like deleting pages, which only an admin can do. So if someone is looking for an admin, it's really not too hard to find one.
+
: I also prefer not to draw attention to the fact that I'm an admin. By and large, we try to decide things by consensus. Most of the time, it doesn't matter if I'm an admin. I don't want someone following the link from my name on a comment in some discussion, seeing the banner that says "Admin here!", and saying "Oh! He's an admin, I guess what he says is law", because what an admin says on most things ''isn't'' law. For cases where an admin's authority is actually needed, it's often clear you're an admin (because you locked the page, for example) and if it's not clear it's probably better to state as much directly there if you feel people need to know. The rest of the time, it doesn't matter than I'm admin.
+
: I certainly have no issue with other admins using such a banner if they want to. But I wouldn't want to it put on my page, and I wouldn't want it put on any other admin's page unless they put it there themselves.
+
: And that's probably more of an answer than you were expecting. :) -- [[User:Sekoia|Sekoia]] 14:18, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello, per the info at https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/User:Sekoia/Deadlinks, I am requesting that you run the dead links bot again. Welcome!

Hello, Sekoia, and welcome to the Paragon Wiki! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Feel free to fill out your personal user page so we can get to know you. There is a collection of Userboxes you can easily add there. Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.

If you need help, ask me on my talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Don't forget to drop by and introduce yourself in the Forum, which will use the same name/password that you used when you signed up with the wiki. If you ever feel the need to change your password, you will need to do so there instead of here in the wiki. And there's even a RSS Feed, if you're into that.

Also, make sure you take a look at the Help page. There is a lot of preloaded images, missions, and contact info, and what you want to add might already be there.

Again, welcome!

Gladiator Badges

Oops... my search-fu was weak. :( I made the page a redirect. Thanks! - Sekoia 06:30, 25 January 2007 (PST)
I think we just made one page for gladiator badges since they are pretty much the same for both sides. It might be best to make them into two pages, but I just wanted to give you a heads up on what was already here. - Snorii 06:33, 25 January 2007 (PST)

"A while" versus "awhile"

Noticed a few of your recent edits, and ... "awhile" is actually a (semi-)legitimate word, per Merriam-Webster; it's not always an incorrect usage. Just an FYI --PaxArcana 07:23, 24 February 2007 (PST)

Grar. I hate it when people publish incorrect information. *sigh* Thanks for the heads-up. I'll try to find a better list of common misspellings before doing any more corrections. -- Sekoia 07:28, 24 February 2007 (PST)
Don't knock yourself, it is still often an incorrect usage - see the link I provided. As the object of a preposition, it's probably better to let it stand pending checking how it's used in-game. Otherwise, it is probably best to change it. --PaxArcana 07:34, 24 February 2007 (PST)

Table Conversions

Thanks for the welcome! I'm definitely more comfortable with the HTML table format, so as long as it's not a pain for you to run the bot, I'd prefer to keep using it. :) Atiaxi 18:43, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Badge Template

Didn't you have a template for putting a badge entry on a page? E.g. for putting a defeat-villains badge on a villain group's page, so it fetched everything from the badge page? --Lin Chiao Feng 20:35, 29 June 2007 (EDT)

Yep! {{BadgeBox}} You can use it either with manually specified parameters, or let it work automatically. Not all pages are set up for it to work, though. If the image doesn't work, replace the badge's image on the article page with {{Image|File.jpg}} (assuming it was [[Image:File.jpg]]). I eventually plan to get all the badges compatible with it, but haven't yet.
Example that doesn't have things set up properly yet:
File:Badge tourist 01.png Apex

Apex tracked Dr. Vahzilok down to this location, but interference from the Circle of Thorns prevented him from capturing the mad scientist.

Example that does have things set up:
File:V badge HistoryBadge.png Lorekeeper

You have learned much that is hidden from the eyes of mortal men.

I tried to document {{BadgeBox}} pretty well, too. Hope that helps! -- Sekoia 01:18, 30 June 2007 (EDT)

Regarding Template:Common Badges Accuracy, I didn't have a link to Invention: Accuracy since that's the page this template is used on, so it's a self-referencing link. --Lin Chiao Feng 16:00, 30 June 2007 (EDT)

I figured the same template would get used for ToHit pages, since it's the same content. It doesn't actually self-reference, because when you have a self-ref link, it doesn't turn into a link. It just gets bolded. -- Sekoia 18:38, 30 June 2007 (EDT)
Huh, didn't know that. Then I'll rename it to Common Badges Accuracy/To Hit. --Lin Chiao Feng 19:34, 30 June 2007 (EDT)

SalvageList DPL

The docs say that "noresultsheader=" should suppress the warning message, but it doesn't. I'm wondering if this is a bug in the template form of DPL, but I have no way to test it. Right now, I have there, but I'm thinking that maybe <!-- --> might work better. I consider it a minor bug, since it doesn't really mess up the page. --Lin Chiao Feng 08:09, 4 July 2007 (EDT)

I haven't tested it yet, but I'm wondering if it works under <DPL> but not {{#dpl:}}. I know there's one or two other thing that vary between the two formats. Of course, we have no choice but to use the template parser version within a template, so it doesn't really matter. And yup, it's not a big deal... was just trying to do some minor visual tweaking. :) -- Sekoia 12:26, 4 July 2007 (EDT)

DPL... For dummies?

I am on a mission to improve my wiki-fu. Can you point me in a few directions to get info on DPL? I'm going to try my hand at another wiki, and want to try to be the best I can be - i.e. like you! Thanks in advance -- Kalon 21:59, 15 August 2007 (EDT)

Oh how I wish there were a "DPL for Dummies", hehe. Check out their website: [1] That's where I go whenever I want to figure out what does what. It took me a while to pick up the basic concepts from it, but the information is there if you work at it. It's more of a reference than a tutorial though. However, it's pretty much the only resource that I know of. My advice would be to make yourself a Sandbox (User:Kalon/Sandbox, or possibly even hop over to the test wiki) and play around with it a lot, that's pretty much what I did -- played around and kept looking through their manual until I got it. :) -- Sekoia 02:13, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

Yep, DPL is an extension to Mediawiki that has to be installed server-side. It is not installed by default. You can see if it's installed on a server by visiting the page Special:Version. (I ran into that a few times in the past, before Tony upgraded.) -- Sekoia 20:54, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

With that, you can do stuff like this:

{{PowerProp | Set = Speed | Power = Super Speed | Prop = Icon}}

{{PowerProp | Set = Speed | Power = Super Speed | Prop = Icon}} (deleted template -- ~ AGGE talk/cons 19:55, 7 December 2011 (UTC))

--GuyPerfect 20:33, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

That is very slick! -- Sekoia 21:34, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
There was a --> being tacked onto whatever printed out with the last section in the list, so the additional <!-- makes sure that doesn't happen. Check out [[Template:PowerProp]] for some info on what I've done. --GuyPerfect 21:52, 2 November 2007 (EDT)
Ah, yes. I see what you were asking. I put the <-- after the partial image tags because it makes the interperater terminate the image tag in the appropriate place. So my template is basically using two exploits in one. If either of them gets fixed, it will fail to work properly. --GuyPerfect 21:58, 2 November 2007 (EDT)

DB error

Hi, thanks for reporting the problem (and sorry for not getting back to you until now :P).

This appears to be a temporary glitch. We've looked at the DB and everything seems OK.

But please let me know if you see this again.

Thanks, TOR<staff /> 14:17, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Altaholic userbox that you have.

Sekoia, I've included your altaholics/all code on my userpage; hopefully you don't mind. I'd like to include it as a second altaholics/all badge on the userbox template page if you don't mind. I just find yours to be much cleaner. Thanks.

--Torin23 02:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Torin, and thanks! I don't mind at all. Everything I do here can be freely copied. :) If you'd like to include it on the userbox template page, feel free. Cheers! -- Sekoia 04:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

VEATS in the Players' Guide

I added the VEATs to Creating a Character while overhauling the article early this evening. Just noticed it was in your To Do list, so I thought I'd let you know. --Eabrace 05:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. The new revisions look good, too. :D -- Sekoia 06:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Eek!

Sorry about the misplaced message to Sleepykitty about the Fan wiki, Sekoia -- I must have hit the wrong "Talk" link from Recent changes....I'll delete it here and move it where it belongs. :) Please keep up the good work! — Catherine<staff/> (talk) 11:07, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem! :D I dropped her a message on our forums and let her know about it, so it's all good. -- Sekoia 18:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

RE: Tests

Happy to be a guinea pig in the name of science. :) --Eabrace 04:20, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

(No error when I save here either, by the way.) --Eabrace 04:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

User Merges

You're just too quick for me to keep up, Sekoia. :) --Eabrace 17:24, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Heh! Oops. :) -- Sekoia 17:43, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

"Slow" Set Bonuses

Per a quick discussion at the talk page, can you sic your bot on pages that use {{Set Bonus}} to refer to type=Slow as class=Mez, changing them to class=All Powers?

Also, I attempted to find a bot program that works with our wiki and apparently there are none (the biggie is AutoWikiBrowser, which I'm moderately familiar with from some Wikipedia edits.) As I know absolutely nothing about programming a bot myself, I was wondering if there's something that could enable one of the ready-made bots here? (Preferably AWB. >.> ) Cos then I wouldn't have to bug you every time I found something to bot! :D ~ AGGE talk/cons 03:28, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Changes made, including the relevant category renaming. I've never used AWB but I took a quick look at it, try doing this:
 • Go to Options -> Preferences
 • Select the "Site" tab
 • For "Project:" select "custom"
 • Next to "http://" put "paragonwiki.com/w/"
 • Click OK and see if it works!
I was going to test it out, but I don't know how to use AWB and it wasn't immediately obvious to me, so I gave up, lol. Good luck! -- Sekoia 19:28, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Derpin' derpy

Thanks for the mission move. Brain fart on my part, I was even comparing everything from an already existing tip mission to make sure it was all done right. Apparently I didn't look up high enough. :P ~ AGGE talk/cons 04:58, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

No worries! It happens. :) -- Sekoia 05:50, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

AdminBanner

I made up a template a while ago, based on a divbox Agge had in use on her userpage... {{AdminBanner}} any reason why I couldn't (or shouldn't) add it to the various Admins' user pages? I am asking you, sorta randomly, based on the fact that I happened to notice you weren't using it already. :P —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 06:07, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

I personally try to avoid touching anyone else's user page. Inconsequential changes aren't too big a deal, but I really don't like making visible changes. Each user should be able to decide how they want their user page laid out. So that's a general reason for why not to do it.
I also don't see the need for it. I'm listed as an administrator at Project:Administrators (with redirects from Admin, Admins, Administrator, and Administrators), not to mention that you can also query it via Special:ListUsers. Plus more experienced editors catch on when they see an admin doing something like deleting pages, which only an admin can do. So if someone is looking for an admin, it's really not too hard to find one.
I also prefer not to draw attention to the fact that I'm an admin. By and large, we try to decide things by consensus. Most of the time, it doesn't matter if I'm an admin. I don't want someone following the link from my name on a comment in some discussion, seeing the banner that says "Admin here!", and saying "Oh! He's an admin, I guess what he says is law", because what an admin says on most things isn't law. For cases where an admin's authority is actually needed, it's often clear you're an admin (because you locked the page, for example) and if it's not clear it's probably better to state as much directly there if you feel people need to know. The rest of the time, it doesn't matter than I'm admin.
I certainly have no issue with other admins using such a banner if they want to. But I wouldn't want to it put on my page, and I wouldn't want it put on any other admin's page unless they put it there themselves.
And that's probably more of an answer than you were expecting. :) -- Sekoia 14:18, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes, suffice it to say that is a bit more involved than I thought it would be! Smilies smile.gif Your reasoning is sound though, and I can completely respect that! —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 01:32, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Time to sic the bot! Auction House!

Heya Sek, renamed Consignment House to Auction House. Time to sic that bot of yours <grin>. Making some manual changes to some associated pages now though. Cheers! Taosin 11:15, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Done! -- Sekoia 18:53, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Bot Request

I am in the process of making alterations to the Navbox Templates so that they are all in the form {{Navbox <descriptor>}} and have found a pretty massive stumbling block: {{Navbox Patch Notes}}. I don't really think I want to go through and change them all by hand. Do you think you could do a quick pass and alter them to something like {{Navbox Patches}} or something appropriate. Thanks in advance! — Pill-37.png Talk · Cont 05:08, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

My computer died so I can't sic SekoiaBot on it right now, but once I get it back up and running (sometime this week) I can certainly take care of this quickly enough. -- Sekoia 18:45, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to hear that... it's not like there is a rush on the issue. Smilies tongue.gifPill-37.png Talk · Cont 00:23, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
I finally got a chance to take care of this today. Yay! -- Sekoia 18:24, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Edit Count Request

Could I ask you to run that lovely EditCount Cleaner thingy, and then a DB Query for me again? Thanks much in advance! — Pill-37.png Talk · Cont 09:12, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Sure thing, I posted the results for you on the forums. -- Sekoia 12:54, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

It's been over 2 years, and the game has since closed (sadness), and I have once again kinda dropped back into editing and browsing the Titan Forums now that there is a glimmer of hope that the game may just return (happiness). Any chance of you doing another edit count query to see if there are more folks who deserve the Wiki Editing badge? — Pill-37.png Talk · Cont 08:48, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

I've been keeping up with {{WikiAnniversary}} for people who make an edit in the year prior to September 1, and will prod Sekoia for a list of people around then. (Coincidentally, this is PW's anniversary (from TonyV's first edit) as well as the first day post-announcement of CoH's sunset.) I haven't messed with the other editing badges, though. And welcome back! Blondeshell Sig.png talk / contribs 18:17, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Welcome back. Do you still need a query pulled in light of Blondeshell's comments? If so, can you link me to something to remind me what you need? It's been so long that I don't remember the context (my memory is less than spectacular). -- Sekoia 01:30, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, the query was for awarding this user badge: Wiki Incarnate that was for having 5,000+ edits on the Wiki. I figured in being gone from here for almost 2 years, some folks may have qualified who didn't before, Felderburg for one. This was the thread in which I got to thinking about it: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4735.msg42879.html#msg42879. — Pill-37.png Talk · Cont 02:18, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. I'm glad I documented the queries I used. :) I posted to the thread with updated results. -- Sekoia 07:30, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the support, but according to my preferences, I have around 3500. What's the reason for running a DB Query, and not just using the count shown on the preferences page? I am apparently barred from the section of the Titan forums linked (I suspect it's for admins only?). Felderburg 14:04, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, the discussion thread is in the admin section. Basically the gist is that the count shown on the preferences page can get out of whack over time, and there's a maintenance script that can be run to clean it up with an accurate count. Don't worry, you're in the top 20. :) Blondeshell Sig.png talk / contribs 15:21, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Dead Links Bot

Hello, per the info at https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/User:Sekoia/Deadlinks, I am requesting that you run the dead links bot again. I fixed a few, but then discovered at least one that had already been fixed a while ago, so it seems like it may be useful to run again. Felderburg (talk) 16:45, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
