What is SekoiaBot?

SekoiaBot is an account whose edits are all done through the python wikibot framework. Sekoia uses and is responsible for SekoiaBot.

Why don't SekoiaBot's edits show up on the Recent Changes list?

SekoiaBot is a bot account. By default, bot edits are not displayed in the Recent Changes list. If you want to see them, you can click the "Show Bots" link on the Recent Changes page. Or, you can use this direct link which displays the Recent Changes with bot edits visible.

What's with the funky edit summaries?

Sometimes, SekoiaBot makes some very cryptic edit summaries. Often, this happens when I'm using it to replace text in pages. If it's really funky, I was probably either using a very long replacement text or a regular expression.

What kinds of things can the SekoiaBot do?

SekoiaBot can do all sorts of things, but it really excels at making simple edits on lots of pages. Some examples of things I've done with SekoiaBot so far:

  • Rename a category, including updating the category link on all pages in the category
  • Remove a category from all pages in a category
  • Apply "subst" to templates
  • Replace HTML (including tables) with wikitext
  • Make simple text-to-text replacements; this can range from spelling fixes (such as "teh" to "the") to wiki-code changes (such as "[[Image:File.png]]" to "{{Image|File.png}}")
  • Make complex replacements using regular expressions
  • Create redirects for badge or salvage articles (such as redirecting "Alchemical Silver" to "Alchemical Silver Salvage")

Most of these actions can be applied to a single page, all pages in a list, all pages in a category, or all pages on the entire wiki.

Can I get the SekoiaBot to do something for me?

Possibly! Leave a note on my talk page and we'll see what we can do.

SekoiaBot made a HUGE mess!

It did? Uh oh... Leave me a note on my talk page telling me what it did wrong, and I'll go clean up after the silly bot.

SekoiaBot is making a HUGE mess!

If SekoiaBot looks like it's currently making a mess of things, please leave a note on SekoiaBot's talk page IMMEDIATELY. That will normally cause the bot to come grinding to a halt, refusing to move on until I check into it.

It's probably also a good idea to leave a note on my talk page as well, since that'll flag me with "you have a message" next time I log in.

Does SekoiaBot normally make HUGE messes?

No, it's a pretty well-behaved bot. And I try to keep a good eye on what it's doing, and I generally catch and revert anything silly it might on occasion do.

Why on earth does SekoiaBot have this big Q&A thing?

Because I was a bit bored. Plus I realized that seeing hundreds of edits scattered all over the wiki might eventually alarm someone. So I figured I'd be a bit proactive. ^^
