Overview

Reward Token

Reward Tokens are spent within the Paragon Rewards Program to permanently unlock items, costumes, powers, and perks that are otherwise restricted by subscription or purchase through the Paragon Market. They are earned by having paid for subscription time to City of Heroes, City of Villains or City of Heroes Freedom, now or in the past, and can also be earned by buying Paragon Points.

Reward Token Acquisition

VIP Players (current subscribers)

  • VIP Players are given one Reward Token with account creation.
  • VIP Players who were subscribers prior to Freedom launch gain a variable number of reward tokens based on previous paid subscription time. This was a one-time grant and took place at Freedom launch.
  • VIP Players are granted one Reward Token for purchasing any amount of Paragon Points the first time any are purchased. The minimum purchase quantity is 400 Paragon Points.
  • VIP Players are granted one Reward Token for every 1200 Paragon Points purchased. (Cumulative; it needn't be all purchased at once.)
    • Bonus points from large point purchases are included in the formula, but not the monthly point stipend for being a VIP.
    • Example: Buying 8000 PP for $100US gives 1600 bonus points, which results in 9600/1200=8 tokens.
  • VIP Players are granted one Reward Token for having applied a retail code. (One token maximum; not one per box.)
  • VIP Players are given one Reward Token per month of paid subscription time after Freedom launches.
    • These tokens are available one per month, at the end of the month's subscription (similar to old vet rewards). For example, if a player's billing date is October 1, they will be granted a token on October 31.
      • This is a temporary measure until the developers can find a way to award multi-month purchases with all of their tokens up front.
    • There is an additional Reward Token granted for every twelve months subscribed. (Cumulative; it needn't be twelve months in a row.)

Premium Players (accounts with previous subscription time or at least one Paragon Points purchase)

  • Premium Players are given one Reward Token with account creation.
  • Premium Players who were subscribers prior to Freedom launch gain a variable number of reward tokens based on previous paid subscription time. This was a one-time grant and took place at Freedom launch.
  • Premium Players are granted one Reward Token for purchasing any amount of Paragon Points the first time any are purchased. The minimum purchase quantity is 400 Paragon Points.
  • Premium Players are granted one Reward Token for every 1200 Paragon Points purchased. (Cumulative; it needn't be all purchased at once.)
    • Bonus points from large point purchases are included in the formula.
    • Example: Buying 8000 PP for $100US gives 1600 bonus points, which results in 9600/1200=8 tokens.
  • Premium Players are granted one Reward Token for having applied a retail code. (One token maximum; not one per box.)

Free Players (accounts with no money spent)

  • Free Players are given one Reward Token with account creation.
    • Note that Free Players cannot progress beyond this level. Progression requires purchasing Paragon Points or subscribing.

Converting from Veteran Rewards Program

NOTE: All rewards already unlocked with the original Veteran Rewards Program will be automatically selected by the Paragon Rewards Program, even if the reward has been moved beyond the tier an account is able to access.

For a veteran from before City of Heroes Freedom launch, you can simply add up your veteran rewards badges, add one additional token for every complete year subscribed (every four badges), plus one for having an account, and plus one token if a retail code has been applied to your account (ONE TOKEN TOTAL, not one per retail code). To clarify the previous statement, players who started with a Buddy Code from Valentine's Day 2006 theoretically can have never applied a retail code, and still have a valid account. Additionally, after Freedom launches, retail codes are no longer required to play the game. For other ways to earn tokens, see Reward Token Acquisition.

You can find the number of tokens you are entitled to by finding your highest veteran reward on the following table, add one for having an account, then add one if your account has a retail code.

Reward Tokens to Veteran Rewards Level
# Tokens Veteran Level   # Tokens Veteran Level
1 3 Months   19+20 48 Months
2 6 Months   21 51 Months
3 9 Months   22 54 Months
4+5 12 Months   23 57 Months
6 15 Months   24+25 60 Months
7 18 Months   26 63 Months
8 21 Months   27 66 Months
9+10 24 Months   28 69 Months
11 27 Months   29+30 72 Months
12 30 Months   31 75 Months
13 33 Months   32 78 Months
14+15 36 Months   33 81 Months
16 39 Months   34+35 84 Months
17 42 Months   36 87 Months
18 45 Months   37 90 Months

Veteran months listed in blue grant an additional token for the yearly bonus.

Additionally, the reward tiers look as follows:

Reward Tier # Tokens
1 1
2 2
3 3, 4, 5
4 6, 7, 8
5 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
6 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20
7 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27
8 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34
9 35+

Owning (but not necessarily slotting) the number of tokens to complete a tier opens that tier's rewards permissions.

Paragon Rewards Badges

For every Reward Token earned a veteran badge is awarded immediately, even if the token is not slotted.
