Unlike other base items, Pillars can only be placed in specific spots - directly in the center of each square of floor texture. They are also the only base items which can be placed through floors and ceilings. You can place them even under the lowest ceiling and on the highest floor if you wish.  They will appear to be normal height for that room, but they actually exist inside the floor and ceiling. This is the only kind of base item which works this way.

Each base plot square measures 32 feet on a side, and from a minimum of 24 to a maximum of 48 feet in height. Each floor section is 4 feet high, each ceiling section is 8 feet high, and the wall section is 24 feet high.  Measurements given are for the width and depth of the bounding boxes of the pillars, and the height of the end caps.  Note that the pillars themselves are all always 48 feet in height.

Overview

Unlike other base items, pillars can only be placed in specific spots - directly in the center of each square of floor texture (each quarter of a base plot square). You can place them even under the lowest ceiling and on the highest floor if you wish. Because the top and bottom caps adjust to be flush with the floor and ceiling, they will appear to be normal height for that room. However, the pillars themselves actually extend into the floor and/or ceiling if the room is less than the maximum height.

Currently, this page is organized as the items appear in-game.
