Talk:Travel Powers

From Paragon Wiki Archive

This thing needs a complete re-write. as stated below, http://home.comcast.net/~SherkSilver/index.html has a section on Travel Powers that I need to read through --Konoko 02:09, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Speed data

Speeds in MPH, enhanced = 3x SO enhancement

Power Speed @ 14 Speed @ 50 Enhanced @ 50 Cap
Fly 28.72 33.87 52.44 58.63
Super Jump 50.37 55.97 89.80 (capped) 78.00
Super Speed 59.96 70.45 118.02 (capped) 92.50
Teleport 102.27 102.27 159.55 (none)

My planner indicates that landspeed (SS) caps at 100 mph. I have not been able to confirm or refute this.

Blasters with Energy Manipulation may be able to achieve as much as 312 mph using Power Boost and Boost Range.

Which Hero Planner/Builder do you use?
There is a section in SherkSilver's that goes on about travel powers

Executive Summary

Teleport can be faster than 150 MPH; nothing beats it.
Super Speed at level 50 is capped at 92.50 MPH with 2 SOs or HOs.
Super Jumping at level 50 is capped at 78 MPH with 3 SOs or HOs.
Flying at level 50 is capped at 58.63 MPH with 4 SOs or 5 HOs.
Running, Jumping, and Flying all have a base unenhancable speed of 21 feet/second.
Movement powers add a bonus to the base 21 f/s speed; Enhancements only affect the bonus.
The best movement power is Kheldian Bright and Dark Nova flight.
Microfilament HOs give a +30% enhancement bonus, white SOs give +33.3%.
New Microfilament HOs give a +20% Enhancement bonus.
With new HOs, it takes 3 to cap Super Speed, 4 for Super Jumping, and you can't cap Fly.

I use SherkSilver's Hero Planner. This data agrees with that planner.

Additional Travel Powers and new article

I think we need to add these powers to the Travel Powers article in some fashion. Or create a "list of powers that enhance movement/travel".

I also believe we need an article solely for [[Travel]] and the various methods of getting from Point A to Point B, including but not limited to:

  • Rogue Island Ferry and Black Helicopter Line
  • Paragon City Green Line, Red Line
  • Ouroboros
  • Pocket D
  • Supergroup Base Portals
  • Striga's Ship, Peregrine Island's Ferry
  • Zone Connections

Discuss! --Konoko 15:57, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Maybe we need to specify the difference between true travel powers and non travel powers that enhance movement. I think we could pretty easily determine which powers qualify as true travel powers and which do not by seeing what powers are disabled when you start a flashback mission with travel powers disabled. --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 19:42, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
We also need to distinguish between PvE Suppression and PvP Suppression. E.g., Teleport is not subject to the first, but is to the latter.Zombie Man 00:14, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Flight

The table under Travel Speeds looks like it's saying that Flight is capped out-of-box at all levels. Is that really true? If so, when did that happen? That seems like what it's saying, but if it were true, I'd expect it to be explicitly stated (since it's a major thing to consider for slotting and it's not at all obvious), and it also seems to be contradicted by the paragraph under Siphon Speed which claims it "can easily cap Fly". -- Sekoia 22:10, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

I think it's a bug which has been there since Issue 17... but not too sure. At the moment though, Fly powers (well, not including the slow ones like Hover), including the temp ones like Raptor Pack, are capped with no slotting. You can check this yourself with combat attributes, including using the Jump Pack temp power on Raptor Pack to attempt to increase the speed. There's been no real official word on if this has been noticed by the devs though, or when it will be fixed. Sera404 22:33, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Since Issue 18. The original patch notes in test said there was going to be a 33% increase in base flight speed. It wound up, as a bug, to be 50% (for all ATs except Blasters, inexplicably). Castle said it would be fixed. Then it came out that 'they' were sticking with the 50% bump and changed the I18 Release Notes to reflect that. Zombie Man 22:37, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Outdated?

I'm new to the game, only started playing in December 2011, but I think this page is outdated. It mentions level 6 and 14 for the levels where the travel powers are obtained, but I think that currently this is level 4. RogerWilco 03:48, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

You are correct. Travel powers are now available at level 4, but the extra bits in that paragraph hadn't been updated accordingly. --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 04:31, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Re: Agge Edit

Per the following in the article:

The following table lists the four main Travel Powers and their comparative speeds in MPH, first at Level 6, then Level 14, then at Level 50, followed by Level 50 with 1, 2, and 3 Level 50 Single-Origin Enhancements (applying Enhancement Diversification as necessary); the final number listed is the hard cap at Level 50. Red numbers indicate that the Speed Cap is already exceeded and the actual speed will be lowered to the cap. At lower levels, the cap will also be lower.

(emphasis mine), the line:

Enhancements hitting hard-cap thresholds are listed in red.

is incorrect. Base speeds (not just enhancements) are highlighted in red, which is why I just removed the line entirely; I felt the table would look too busy with multiple colors basically indicating the same end result (being the speed cap having been exceeded). One way or the other, it needs to be changed. Draeth Darkstar 14:29, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Easy enough. Changed the second line to "speeds" instead of "enhancements" and the line can stay. ~ AGGE talk/cons 18:51, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Stealth

Why is Stealth in the Movement section? Though it does have an impact on travel speed, it is by no means a movement power, nor one that is used as a substitute for a travel power as some of the others in that section are. I agree that it bears mentioning in the article, due to its effects, but being listed under movement, I find, to be a bit misleading, especially when the section description has to do with suppression... which... how would it make any sense to ever suppress a penalty?!? Am I missing something? —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 05:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

In general, all of the powers in the Movement section are speed/height modifiers. Accelerated Metabolism, for example, will not grant flight to a character, but it will increase flight speed (unless, of course, it's already capped.) Stealth modifies movement just the same as any of the other powers in that section, but with a negative value. And since the modifier value does not change in-combat vs. out-of-combat, the power is not "subject to Suppression" - as noted at the beginning of the section.
Side note: It might be worth mentioning the Steam/Jump Packs, Ninja/Beast Run, and Rocket Board/Flying Carpet powers here at some point. --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 16:09, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps it would be helpful to add a sentence or two at the top of the Movement section clarifying what the list contains, since it isn't necessarily what people would consider "movement powers". -- Sekoia 17:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
If -speed was appropriate, then Rooted should be here too. Except it's not, because it's an article about travel powers. Stealth needs to get booted like a group of tourists visiting a guano cave. --GuyPerfect 18:14, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Have to agree with Guy on this one... I think I just got a chill.  :P —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 00:43, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
